Still Life In Motion:

Kate & Rick’s Dutch Masters Inspired Wedding

Real Wedding

This past November, Laurel Hall was transformed into a living gallery for Kate and Rick’s wedding. The historic, European-inspired estate provided the perfect architectural depth for a day that felt less like a traditional ceremony and more like a curated masterpiece.

The guiding vision for the design was the dramatic, high-contrast beauty of Dutch Masters still life paintings. Kate and Rick wanted their wedding to evoke the same sense of mystery and abundance found in 17th-century art.

The color palette was a lush collection of deep jewel tones. The floral arrangements mirrored this artful disarray—overflowing with deep-toned blooms, trailing vines, and even touches of fruit to ground the aesthetic in that classic "still life" style.

Laurel Hall’s grand stone fireplaces, dark wood paneling, and intricate leaded glass windows offered an authentic European atmosphere. For an intimate wedding of this scale, the estate felt like a private home, allowing guests to move through the ornate rooms as if they were part of an exclusive, candlelit dinner party.

Because the guest list was kept small, every detail was elevated. From the heavy velvet linens in forest green to the gold candelabras, the tactile experience was paramount. The tablescapes were designed to look like a painting come to life, with flickering candlelight casting long shadows across the rich, plum-colored glassware.

To truly honor the Dutch Masters inspiration, the photography was captured with a moody and warm aesthetic. The images lean into the "chiaroscuro" effect—the contrast between light and dark. The golden glow of the estate’s chandeliers against the deep shadows of the November evening created a cinematic, soulful record of Kate and Rick’s union.

It was a day that proved beauty lies in the shadows, and that an intimate wedding can carry the weight and grandeur of a centuries-old work of art.
